The 2024 National Training Camp was held in Nelson where the ten Academy members present made up approximately 1/7 of the judoka present.

This event is the one that judoka keen to represent New Zealand need to front up at, for the National Coaches to scrutinise their progress.

For many judoka, this event is a rite of passage, regardless of their competition aspirations. It is a chance to test oneself against strong competition judoka from around the country. The Academy is very proud to have sent eleven judoka to the camp in 2024. This was the largest number we have had for many years represent at this event. A twefth judoka was prevented attending by injury. This is a great start for the Academy this year.

Guest coaching this year was Akishige Kuraishi, Yondan, of Kokushikan University in Tokyo. Kokushikan is one of the perennially strong Japanese Universities, producing many World, Olympic and All Japan Champions over the years. Aki san is coaching at Christchurch Judo School this year while in New Zealand. Aki has an excellent Youtube Channel. @akiology312
