Following the cancellation of Grassroots 2020, this year’s event was Grassroots XII.

Clubs represented from Wellington were Budokan, Tawa, Koizumi, Upper Hutt, Kapiti and the Academy.

For the fourth time, Jason King (6 Dan), of Gisborne Judo Club came down to lend his expertise to the Wellington Area. He brought a small team of his own students as well.

Jason has a wealth of experience in competition judo and is one of the finest club coaches in the country. As ever, he was able to cater for a wide range of needs, from the novice to the elite.

On the Sunday Chocolate Fish Competition the Academy kids acquitted themselves well, with several members beating higher grades at the competition.

The weekend finished, as always with the ‘beat up a black belt’ session before a mass effort to pack down the mat area and other equipment.

We look forward to Grassroots XIII next year.
